Scout Camp May Be Over... But My Job Sure Isn't!
Hello, everyone! The past week has been very busy for me. I have had to fold up more tents in Delta Sub-Camp 2. It didn't take very long, but thankfully it is all done. While there were not a whole lot of tasks for Base Camp Staff to do, I got caught up in my very first game of the role playing game, Dungeons and Dragons. I was a bit curious about the game, and I definitely had fun with the the scouts who were playing the game in the Pigott Building. Weather wise, it was very wet and not at all great. We have had at least 3 severe storms hit the camp already and I personally have seen tents fly away in the wind. Sadly though, I never got to do anything fun this week. I didn't do any fun activities and I certainly did not get off property. In absence of the weather, I did get to see a whole lot of wildlife. On Tuesday morning, while doing the flag ceremony, a wild turkey walked across the the marching grounds right near the flag posts, it was a bit ridiculous. Tonight, while coming back from dinner, the shuttle van stopped in the road due to a baby black bear cub strutting along the side of the road.
This past week also marked the last week of the Scout Camp program. From now on until I get picked up, the Summit will be hosting mini versions of Scout Camp called Appalachian Adventure. It is a three day program in which troops come to the property just to do high adventure activities and not do any merit badge related courses. In two weeks, we won't have any troops at the final session of Appalachian Adventure, so most of us can have 3 days of cleaning up and relaxing. Hopefully next week will be more exciting.
