Homecoming 2018

It has been one month since I have written my last entry and I feel very ashamed to say so. I feel like I should be writing more often, but I am just constantly getting ready for upcoming tests at Mizzou. The past four weeks have been very busy with focusing on Nutrition and Sociology. Last week, I took my midterm exam in Journalism 1100 and I plan on getting some more help from the TAs. Two weeks ago, I went camping with the MU Venture Club to Mark Twain National Forest. For the entire trip, we went hiking on the back-country trails and indulged ourselves on hot dogs and trail mix at night. That night was very cold with temperatures dropping to the lower 40’s. Thankfully, the club supplied us with 0 degree sleeping bags.

This weekend of October 21st has been Homecoming weekend. Yesterday on Saturday I went to the Homecoming Parade and football game against Memphis University. The parade was exploding with colorful floats which were based on childhood board games from Clue all the way to Battleship. Homecoming is a bit of a regional holiday for the city of Columbia due to half town’s population being college students. Multiple alumni filled the sidewalks with folding chairs and blankets. By the time the parade was over, I made my way over to the Southwest neighborhood to prepare myself for the big game. It’s been a while since Mizzou has won a big game and I was very confident we would win. I’m happy I was right because we beat Memphis 65 to 33. Since I had nothing to do Saturday but to tailgate with my fellow students in the Tiger’s Lair student section, I decided to get painted up at the front sixty. The front sixty is a line of students who represent the Tiger’s Lair by painting a phrase from the forty to sixty-yard mark on the field. The phrase this week was based on homecoming, so I was painted the second m in homecoming.

Next week on Friday, I will be taking a trip to St. Louis with the MU Magazine Club to get a better understanding of what it is like to write for a publication that publishes every month. I am very excited to take part in the experience due to my interests in Magazine writing. We will be visiting St. Louis Homes and Lifestyle, St. Louis Magazine, and then select between the food magazines Sauce or Feast. I really don’t have a preference as long as I get informed on what it is like to write an article with more than 1000 words. I know its more than the 230 word limit I had when I wrote for my high school yearbook publication.
